Strittmatter Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Peter A. Strittmatter Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Advanced Study in Astronomy & Astrophysics is a new prize fellowship created in honor of Peter A. Strittmatter, who directed Steward Observatory for 37 years, starting in 1975. Under his tenure, the observatory grew dramatically in faculty and facilities, including completion of the Multiple Mirror Telescope, the Submillimeter Telescope, the Large Binocular Telescope, and membership in the Magellan Telescopes, among others.

The new fellowship offers the same independence, funding level, and duration as the Bok Postdoctoral Fellowship. The full facilities of Steward Observatory are available to the Fellow, who is encouraged to pursue both independent research and collaborative work with Observatory staff members. It is our hope that the inaugural Strittmatter Fellow will be an outstanding scientist with the potential to establish a similar tradition of excellence.

Candidates must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Astronomy or a related field before the starting date of the Fellowship.
