Slow food for black holes 

Slowly accreting black holes accrete far below the Eddington rate. They are important targets for the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a new millimeter very long baseline interferometry experiment that will resolve the event horizon of at least two black holes. Understanding EHT results will require reliable accretion flow models, but slowly accreting black holes pose some interesting physical challenges connected to the collisionless nature of the accreting plasma. I will describe a new generation of numerical general relativistic extended magnetohydrodynamics models that are inspired by the Israel-Stewart theory of dissipative relativistic fluids, but modified for a magnetized plasma.
