Cosmology, Intergalactic Medium, Instrumentation, Extragalactic Astronomy, Active Galactic Nuclei
Professor Bechtold works on observational aspects of active nuclei, their host galaxies, the intergalactic medium, and quasar metal absorbers. She is an active user of the Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory, as well as several ground-based telescope facilities. She is principle investigator of a new facility instrument for the MMT, the MMT Advanced Echelle Spectrograph, or MAESTRO, which saw first light in 2007 and will go into routine use in 2009.
