Awards and Achievements
George Coyne, Steward Observatory professor and Vatican Observatory astronomer, was awarded the 2009 George Van Biesbroeck prize by the American Astronomical Society.
Jennifer Donley, postdoc, was selected as the 2009 Outstanding Scholar for both the Astronomy Department and the College of Science. Donley has also received the Giacconi Fellowship at STScI.
Kristian Finlator, graduate student, has been awarded a prestigious Hubble Fellowship which he will take to the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Ben Oppenheimer, postdoc, has received the NOVA Fellowship at Leiden University.
Moire Prescott, graduate student, received the Astronomy Department Outstanding Service Award for 2009. Prescott has also received the TABASGO Fellowship at UC Santa Barbara.
Wayne Schlingman, graduate student, received the Astronomy Department Outstanding Mentor/Teaching Assistant Award for 2009.
Amy Stutz, graduate student, has received the MPIA Heidelberg Fellowship in Star & Planet Formation.
Yujin Yang, postdoc, has received the MPIA Heidelberg Fellowship in Galaxies and Cosmology.

Announcements
The Department of Astronomy/Steward Observatory is hosting an external review committee on March 9-10 for its 7-year Academic Program Review.
A Town Hall to discuss the Astro2010 decadal survey on astronomy and astrophysics will be hosted jointly by Steward Observatory and the National Optical Astronomy Observatory on Saturday, March 14, at Steward. For more information click here.
Steward Observatory will host the "Wild Stars in the Old West II" workshop on cataclysmic variables and related objects during the week of March 16. For more information click here.
The semi-annual meeting of the Arizona Astronomy Board will be held on Friday, March 27.
New Faces
Two new Hubble Fellows will arrive this fall:
Stephen Ammons from UC Santa Cruz will be working with Jill Bechtold at the Steward Observatory.
Emily Schaller from the University of Hawaii will work with Jonathan Lunine at the Lunar and Planetary Lab. |
