Title: Making Sense of the Galactic Stellar Halo
Abstract:
The stellar halo of the Galaxy is a mess, but only superficially so. Today, it is possible to untwine the tidal debris the halo is jumbled up from, thanks to the combination of deep, wide, publicly available datasets, sophisticated dynamical modelling tools and high-resolution numerical simulations. The picture that emerges resembles the theoretical prototype, with few (minor?) quirks. I will talk about the assembling of the puzzle of the Galactic accretion, and will discuss how much information the luminous halo contains about its dark counterpart.
